Favorite Friday(6)

Favorite Friday is a weekly meme that features bloggers/authors and their favorites things!

***

It's time for another edition of Favorite Friday! This week I'm excited to have Kari from A Good Addiction.

~~~~~~~~~
It’s always a warm and fuzzies kind of thing when you get to take control of someone else’s blog. Must mean they like you and stuff. Yay. So besides the fact that I think Sherry is kinda awesome, I also think the X-Files are fantastic.
I’ve seen every episode, most of them multiple times. I own seasons 1-5 on DVD… and will eventually get the rest although I admit, the show lost quite a bit of spark when Mulder wasn’t so front and center. Doggit just wasn’t the same, not to mention, it wasn’t until after Mulder left that Scully started being all, oh there must be something besides a logical, scientific explanation. I mean so what if for years, I negated everything Mulder said even if in the end, he was always right with his not rational explanation. But barring that… and ignoring the fact that Fox Mulder was a bit of a hottie back in the day…
This show was awesome. A few of the episodes even creeped me out, like the moth people one? Those suckers are invisible and have freaky red eyes and they hide under your bed and wait. They pull you underground. They want to kill you. How do you fight off such things? Oh wait, for the most part, you don't. Or what about Eugene Tooms, who could squeeze through like anything? He was his own brand of creepy, as was the Flukeman. I could go on but… ten seasons is a lot to cover.
And this was all early 90s when TV graphics, etc weren’t what they are now. I admit the latest X-Files movie disappointed me…. it was less X-Files and more let’s see how demented we can be… but if they redid some of the earlier eps, man. It’d be freaky awesome.
~~~~~~~~~~~

So there you have it. I haven't watched the X-Files before so maybe I will go check it out! Thanks so much for sharing one of your favorite things Kari! :)

Make sure you come back next week to learn about the favorite things of another blogger!

Review: Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
Publication Date: August 31st, 2010
Published by Margaret K. McElderry (Simon & Schuster)
Hardcover, 496 Pages
Source: ARC(from another blogger)

Summary from Goodreads:

"Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still.

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.

Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What's more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.

Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: Jem, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length...everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world...and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all."

My Review: *****+ = 5+ Stars

I have been eagerly awaiting Clockwork Angel since Cassandra Clare first made the announcement that a prequel series would be released. As a *HUGE* fan of her Mortal Instruments Series, I knew it would feel wonderful to slip back into this imaginative world that she created. I had my worries, of course, that Clockwork Angel just wouldn't compare to the MI series, which is my favorite series of all time(tied with Harry Potter).

Clockwork Angel was everything I hoped it would be and more. While it clearly welcomes us back into the world that we came to love, the story is entirely it's own and not the same as any of the MI books, as I feared might happen.

It's a new environment, location, characters and story. Tessa stands out as quite a unique character, that I can't wait to learn more about. As for Will & Jem, whom we have heard so much about, I'm afraid I can't state which team I am yet. Both boys have their qualities and faults. I really loved the connections to the MI series, such as the same terms(clave, institution, etc.) and similar names. It was enough to connect the two stories but it wasn't too much that it conflicted in any way.

I can say that I imagine this series, once complete, will be with The Mortal Instruments at the top of my favorites list. While I didn't want it to end, and I am dying for more, the story didn't leave me hanging too badly. Of course I want more, and I want it now, but that's because it's amazingly awesome and not because of a cruel cliffhanger.

Amazingly, I don't know if I am more excited for City of Fallen Angels, or the next installment in the Infernal Devices.

I still hold strong in my opinion that Cassandra Clare is an outstanding author that will always give us entertaining and enjoyable material. I *still* look forward to anything/everything she will come out with.

Mark your calendars, Clockwork Angel hits stores August 31st.

*Have you read Clockwork Angel yet? Were you disappointed, surprised....??

In My Mailbox(22)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren, which was inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie.

I haven't done an IMM in weeks. Like 4. It just seems silly to do an IMM for 1 book so I just wait until I have a decent amount of books and then I do it. So this is the combination of 4 weeks worth of books.

Passing Strange by Daniel Waters
Emma and the Vampires by Wayne Johnson
Songs of a Teenage Nomad by Kim Culbertson
The Plague by Joanne Dahme
The Eternal Kiss by many, many authors

Favorite Friday(5)

Welcome to this weeks edition of Favorite Friday.

Favorite Friday is a weekly meme devoted to learning about our fellow bloggers or authors favorite things.

Feel free to use my meme(and the button) just please credit me.

This week we have Larissa from Larissa's Life.

***

Hey everyone! I loved this idea that Sherry had and I'm honored to stop by and share my favorite things.

I LOVE reading, well duh! since I have a book blog that was quite obvious wasn't it? Ok, how about some other of my favorite things like drawing? I have always loved drawing and even though I haven't done it in a while I do love it so. I draw abstract patterns and women's clothes =)

I have a few addictions in life besides reading, when I'm with a book I just need to have some MUSIC on or a TV show on... It is a physiological need to have sound in my environment that I can't quite explain, but it's true.

Now, there are other random things that I can say are my favorite, like: Walking in the rain, the night sky, talking on the phone with my best friend, odd numbers, flipping the pages of a new book and smelling them...

Well, I guess that's it, that's for stopping by and reading about my favorite things. What are yours?

***

Thanks for stopping by Larissa! That's it for this week. See you next friday here on Favorite Friday!

Favorite Friday (4)

Meme Button

(Thanks to Larissa for my new button! I'll leave it in the sidebar and if you want to start Favorite Friday you can grab my button and just be sure to credit me!)

Favorite Friday is a meme that focuses on the favorite things of our fellow bloggers or authors!

This week Emily aka Willowraven from Red House Books is here to share some of her favorite things.

********

One of my favorite things is the beach.

I grew up on an island, literally surrounded by water at all times. As a kid, every summer, I took swimming lessons at the local pool during the week and almost every weekend I was at the beach! The sun was always so warm and the water was always freezing. Didn't matter what time of year it was. We all blamed it on 'that Gulf Stream thing' even though none of us kids really knew what that meant.

Going to the beach was a simple affair in my family. Some blankets, maybe a chair or two, shovels and buckets (of course) and that was about it. Finding the perfect spot was always tricky. We wanted to be close enough to the water to hear the waves and smell the salt but not too far away from the boardwalk. As soon as we settled down, I would start digging. Sandcastles really weren't my thing - I left that to my dad or cousin. What I wanted was the moat. Close enough to the water, if you dug down to just the right depth, your hole would fill up with sea water. I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

There are tons of beaches on Long Island but there was really only one we ever went to. Jones Beach. Lots of sand, mild waves, mile of boardwalk, lots of food and it even had a mini golf! Tons of sea shells to collect (I still have a bunch) and the sunsets? Beautiful!

I miss the beach and I miss the water. I never would have though I would come to live in an (almost) land locked state and I never realized how much I took the water for granted. I still love the beach, even though I don't see it nearly enough these days. My family is still on Long Island and even though this summer is supper busy for me, I'm thinking a trip to the beach is in order - it's been too long!

********

Thanks so much for stopping by Emily!

In case you missed it, Emily is hosting a Blogoversary! Mega Contest! There's lots of asesome prizes so make sure you go check it out! :)

Hope you have a great Friday!

Updates and random blabber!

Hey everyone! I've been kind of absent lately besides posting a few contests and I just want to apologize. My schedule has been a whole lot of crazyness and I havent had time to actually read for a while(which makes me very sad!).

Last week I went on a mini vacation with my boyfriend down to Atlantic City. Some of you already saw that Eleni from La Femme Readers was on vacation there with her fiance and no its not a coincidence we were both there at the same time! I went to hang out with her, and the four of us had a great time. Of course I only got to stay until Tuesday night because we had to drive(when I say we I mean my boyfriend) back home because I had to work Wednesday morning.

Here's some pics!
(Eleni, Me, My boyfriend George, Eleni's fiance Fir)

The Carnival on the boardwalk.

Me being random at Ripley's Believe it or Not.

Some random surfer, hes pretty good huh?

Other than that I've been working and watching my neice a lot. I've been freaking exhausted lately from the overnights and early mornings at work, not to mention going into work after 2 and a half hours of sleep when I got in from Atlantic City.

So once again I apologize for the lack of reviews. I promise this is still a book review blog and I will work on getting some books read.

On a side note, for those of you who filled out the forms to donate books to the girls at St. Anne's, please have them sent out by July 12th. I will be selecteing winners tomorrow of the three gift cards and the signed book.

Also, 500 followers contest winners, I will be mailing your prizes out on friday! I have so much going on I haven't been able to make it to the post office yet! Sorry!

And in case you missed it, I currently have two giveaways going on.

That's it for now! Hope you all enjoy your day!
