My 300th post and a giveaway!

Wow! This is my 300th post on this blog. *tears up* It's definitely been a fun-filled journey reaching this point. I've met many amazing bloggers and authors, and so I lift my virtual champagne glass and toast to (hopefully) 300 more!

In celebration of Valentine's Day being yesterday, of this being my 300th post, and me almost hitting 800 followers (4 away!! eek!), I decided to hold a giveaway to win a pre-order of my most recent favorite read and a book I absolutely LOVE. Valentine's Day is the celebration of love after all, no one said it had to be directed to another person ;).

If you follow me on twitter(@ssalach21), or read my latest review, you will know that I am talking about Divergent by Veronica Roth.

If you missed my rave review, you can check it out here(It's spoiler free!).

Here is the summary for those of you who aren't familiar:

"One choice

One choice decides your friends, defines your beliefs, and determines your loyalties . . . forever.

Or, one choice can transform you.

In Veronica Roth's debut novel, Divergent, a perfect society unfolds into a dystopian world of electrifying decisions, stunning consequences, heartbreaking betrayals, and unexpected romance."

In this book, Chicago is made up of five factions. It is up to you to decide which faction best suits you, and the lifestyle you wish to live.

Abnegation- The Selfless
Dauntless- The Brave
Amity- The Peaceful
Erudite- The Intelligent
Candor- The Honest

To enter this contest, all you have to do is leave me a comment telling me which faction you would be in and why you would be able to throw those other virtues out the window.

If the book depository ships to you, then you can enter! (Yay for International Contests!!)

If you want to get an extra entry, spread the word about this contest in a tweet or a blog post and leave the link with your comment. Please also leave your email address so I can contact the winner after this giveaway ends!

Now this book isn't out until May, so I will leave this open for a month, until March 15th. At that time I will probably hold ANOTHER giveaway for this same book, because it is that awesome and I want everyone to have the chance to read it!!

Alright, get entering, and GOOD LUCK!!!

Tough question...I'll go with Amity: The Peaceful. One, that's my personality currently, and 2 ... to have peace you need other great qualities...restraint. Patience. Understanding.

Abnegation - you can be as intelligent, brave, peaceful as you want to be but if you only hoard those qualities to yourself, your going to end up alone.

Ack! I've won a bunch of books from you before, and I almost didn't enter because of that, but I really want to read this!

I guess I'd pick erudite, because it seems the most up my alley, but I'd have trouble throwing out the other virtues, even though I'm not brave, or very selfless, or even peaceful sometimes!

Awesome contest, Sherry!

This is a tough one. I'm SUPER excited for this novel. I wish it was coming out sooner. I'll go with Erudite. It's the intelligent ones who would realize that you need all of the other factions for the community to run smoothly, and not just to dominate.

YOU MAKE ME WANT THIS BOOK SO BAD, haha. Hmm, I think I'd join Erudite because while morals are all valuable, I NEED mental stimulation to survive. I guess that means I shouldn't be in Abnegation then, since that's pretty selfish...

Congrats!

This is definitely going to sound conceited, but I'd be with The Erudite. I recognize the value of each of the others, and like to think that I have each of those traits as well, but if I could only keep one, I'd go for intelligence. Because then I'm smart enough to know when to be brave and when to run, when to be honest and when it's best to fudge a little etc.

I am SO excited for this book! Can't wait to read it! :)

I would choose Candor; honesty and living with honest people would certainly be something I could base my life around. Plus I have the feeling it'll have plenty of test and trials, and I'm one for a good challenge. ;-)

I would throw those other virtues out the window since they're smaller, and thus, would be more apt to being chucked out of a window. Honest people would never want to admit they threw something out of the window, and thus, Candor would never fly out the shutters.

I've tweeted about your contest over @DivergentBooks. I'm following you on Twitter, so feel free to DM me if I win, because (gasp!) I still haven't read it!

And I'd have to go with Erudite. If you can outwit everyone else why do you need the other virtues? Being honest? All the time? Yuck man. And I don't care to ever be the martyr so no selflessness. Truthfully though making a choice between any one of these is rather just silly. You can't be one without any of the others. And there's so many different ways to be "brave" or "selfless". Then again I haven't read the book so I'm probably just yabbering.

And dear lord I swear those words were taken from my AP vocab word list! Gah! My teacher will be pleased...

I would definitely want to be in 'Dauntless' because bravery and courage are the two most important things in life, especially when you're facing the enemy. The main thing I look for when I'm reading books is bravery, courage and cunning.

This feels like being sorted into Houses:)

Abnegation: Okay, being selfless is good, but it could get you killed. Being too selfless gets boring after a while.
Amity: Peace is all good and well, but someone needs to bring about the peace in the first place- that's what 'The Dauntless' are for.
Erudite- Being intelligent is good- but if you don't have the courage to back it up, you won't be able to do anything worthwhile with your intelligence.
Candor- Honesty is not always the best policy. It can get you into all sorts of trouble;)

Dauntless. To be brave requires the most heart; you can be brave to be wrong, brave to be scared, brave to be trying, and brave to be honest. It takes a lot of self-sacrifice and knowledge altogether. It's all of the others wrapped into one.

I would choose to be in Dauntless, I want to be the brave one! 'Cause you can be everything - selfless, peaceful, intelligent and honest at the same time... but you have to have balls to do something! There are a lot kinds of bravery! You can be hero even if you are selfless, intelligent, honest and peaceful. You can be the good guy or the bad guy... you only have to have faith in yourself. If you have it you can be everybody and do everything. This is meaning of bravery for me.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I would choose to go to 'the selfless (abnegation)' faction. I believe that one can be dauntless for the wrong reasons or motivations. One can aim for peace using unjust methods (ironically) or one can say his life is peaceful just because he is looking out for his own without taking others into consideration. One can be intelligent but be also apathetic. And one can be so honest that the results of his actions bring great pain. These things can cause others great harm and suffering. They are also the points I thought of that led me to my choice. When one aims for selflessness, he must be (1) brave to choose others than himself; (2) at peace with his choices so that he will be able to endure; (3) intelligent, because being selfless is also thinking about the best way to help others and; (4)honest to himself in times when he is confused as to what is the right thing to do. Actually, I am thinking of selflessness here as the Christian selflessness, where one's self is not 100% forgotten; because in the first place, how can one perform acts of selflessness if he forgets about the basic things for himself? It may seem confusing, but my point is, I choose selflessness here because I believe (1) the essence of the word/virtue is the proper balance between thinking about oneself and others and; (2)it involves the other virtues upheld by the other factions.

I'm not sure... let's see if I can work it out by elimination.

Abnegation- The Selfless I could be selfless, but I would have to give up making a difference myself; instead I would constantly be paving a way for others and I want to make a difference.

Dauntless- The Brave I could be brave, but I think I would deny the most of myself here.

Amity- The Peaceful I believe in creating peace, but not at the expense of sweeping issues under the carpet. Still? I can't be still!

Erudite- The Intelligent I am intelligent, but I would hate to spend the rest of my life believing I was better than everyone around me for it.

Candor- The Honest I think this is my fit; I could see the truth in it all and speak up. Yeah, that's me with Candor.

~The Book Pixie said...

I'd prefer to think I wouldn't choose and would run some kind of undergroud rebel group but since that isn't an option.....

Well I wouldn't choose The Honest even though I'm a very blunt person because I believe every now and again, lies are sometimes needed. I wouldn't choose The Brave because there are a lot of brave but stupid people out there who just cause trouble for themselves. I wouldn't pick The Selfless because sometimes we do need to put ourselves first. It really comes down to The Peaceful and The Intelligent for me.

When you get a group of purely intelligent people together, there is bound to be chaos and friction because they know they are smart and always think they are right. Not to mention fights for control of power.

In the end I'd probably choose Amity: The Peaceful. Though even that has it's draw backs because to be so peaceful, people would have to be unbelievably accepting, in which case, what happens to people's own opinions? But then again, maybe it's just that people are that respectful of your opinions even if they don't share them. And if that's the case, then they too are intelligent. Plus I could use some frikin peace for once.

I guess the faction I would choose to be in would be Amity - The Peaceful because I guess if things are going to be peaceful, then the other qualities don't really matter...?

I would love to be in Amity! To true you gotta have a bit of the others to have peace!

I'd probably be in Amity, because I'm shy and a pacifist. And, well... if you were peaceful, I guess there really wouldn't be a need for braveness, selflessness or intelligence, although honesty should exist in a peaceful world.

I think I would be Candor. None of these 5 descriptions particularly fits me, but people often tell me Im quite critical towards others and myself, of course, as well. Sometimes I speak my mind even though I know it would be better for everyone if I just shut up. But if I could choose where I would want to be, Id pick Dauntless. I have always deeply admired brave people and wished I was one of them. x) I love how they overcome their fear and stand up to it.

Thanks for the giveaway, by the way! Would love to read this book!

I would choose 'Erudite' because that seems to be the only faction pertaining to reading of some sort, and I could not live without books; even though the other factions have desirable traits, most of what they do leaves no time to read any! I hope that I'll win this book. Thanks for the giveaway. : )
