Review: Arson by Estevan Vega

Whoops! I should have posted this review a long time ago but I goofed.. so my apologies to you Mr. Vega! :)

(Copy received from Author for honest review)

Summary from goodreads:

"ARSON GABLE FEELS LIKE A FREAK. HE CAN CREATE FIRE. HE NEVER ASKED FOR IT. HE NEVER WANTED IT. BUT HE CAN'T SHUT IT OFF.

Before now, three things were true: he both loved and despised his grandmother; his life was going nowhere; and he was alone. But when a strange girl-who feels more normal behind a mask than inside her own skin-moves in next door, Arson hopes to find something he's never had: purpose. Using what he fears the most about himself, Arson must face his consuming past and confront the nightmare that is present as he walks the fine line between boy and monster. Dark, moody, and breathtakingly relevant, Arson, the chilling chronicle of an isolated boy with unimaginable ability, is sure to ignite the hearts and minds of a new generation."

My review: ***** = 5 Stars

At first when Estevan emailed me asking to review his book, I was hesitant. The cover kind of creeped me out. Okay... the cover really creeped me out, but i've heard the saying, just like i'm sure you all have.. to NEVER judge a book by it's cover. So I didn't. I agreed to review it since it sounded like something I would enjoy and enjoy it I did. Arson was amazingly written, and it still astounds me that the author is younger than I am. The characters were developed so well and were extremely realistic. One thing that I really enjoyed was that the characters were relateable. Not in the fire creating since, because I can't do that.. can you? But in the since that he has to deal with everyday problems like the rest of us. We all have a crazy relative to deal with, maybe not quite like Arson's grandmother but there are people out there like that, or the new girl next door.. or guy, but girl in this case. Emery was a great character too. Well written and humurous even with everything she's been through. This book is an emotional ride, but it's one definitely worth taking. I couldn't believe it when it ended, and now I am anxiously awaiting the sequel.. like bad. I would have been very upset if that was it, that ending and nothing more. But i'm thanking my lucky stars because Estevan himself has confirmed that there will be a sequel. Now me and all my fellow fangirls (Yea you Kari and Eleni, and Corinne as soon as you get to read it!!!) can't wait to delve into whatever it is that's coming next. Once you get the chance to read it, I bet you won't be able to wait either!

Kudos to you Estevan for writing such a brilliant novel, I look forward to all of your future work!!

If you can't wait to read it, head on over to Tate Publishing where you can purchase your own copy now... otherwise it is offically being released on May 4th, 2010.

The cover kind of creeps me out too - but it sounds like it's worth it. I love the font on the cover :)
