Review: Fallen by Lauren Kate

(Copy purchased by me)

Summary from goodreads:

"Seventeen-Year-Old Luce is a new student at Sword & Cross, an unwelcoming boarding/reform school in Savannah, Georgia. Luce’s boyfriend died under suspicious circumstances, and now she carries the guilt over his death with her as she navigates the unfriendly halls at Sword & Cross, where every student seems to have an unpleasant—even evil—history.

It’s only when she sees Daniel, a gorgeous fellow student, that Luce feels there’s a reason to be here—though she doesn’t know what it is. And Daniel’s frosty cold demeanor toward her? It’s really a protective device that he’s used again . . . and again. For Daniel is a fallen angel, doomed to fall in love with the same girl every 17 years . . . and watch her die. And Luce is a fellow immortal, cursed to be reincarnated again and again as a mortal girl who has no idea of who she really is."

My review: **** = 4 stars

(spoiler free!)
First off I must say I love the cover. I think it's absoultely gorgeous and it was one of the things that first drew me into this book. I started reading this book last week because it had been sitting on my shelf for weeks and I was just in the mood to finally read it. While I loved the overall story of the book, and especially the ending when it all comes together, I didn't like how long it took to get there. It felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again and it kind of annoyed me, I was like yes I know now what? It probably would have been a 3 stars if the author hadn't done such a wonderful job of wrapping everything up. The idea of the story was certainly a brilliant, well crafted one, but I just like a little something more to hook me. With that being said I am glad I took the time to finish it. I've heard many things about this book, love it or hate it, and while I certainly loved the ending, I just wish the beginning was a little more fast paced. It's not that there wasn't enough going on, because there was. We got to meet numerous characters and there was some wonderful interactions between them. I will definitely be picking up the sequal when it is released. I have a feeling I will enjoy that one much more because I know the main idea behind the books now, of course there will be things I don't know, but there is that better understanding from the get go. I won't delve into the details in this one because i'm afraid to give away to much so i'll just stick with that!

Have you read Fallen yet, if so, what did you thing!?

I did read it and I actually wrote a post about it here: http://phoenixshadowbeast.blogspot.com/2010/02/tale-of-two-angels-thus-named-by-alicia.html

While I like it better since i wrote about it, I'm still not the biggest fan of Fallen. Maybe the next book will change my opinion.
