Summary from goodreads:
"After a close encounter with the front end of a school bus, Alona Dare goes from Homecoming Queen to Queen of the Dead. Now she’s stuck here in spirit form with no sign of the big, bright light coming to take her away. To make matters worse, the only person who might be able to help her is Will Killian, a total loser/outcast type who hates the social elite. He alone can see and hear her, but he wants nothing to do with the former mean girl of Groundsboro High.
Can they get over their mutual distrust—and this weird attraction between them—to work together before Alona vanishes for good and Will is locked up for seeing things that don’t exist?"
My Review: **** = 4 Stars
The Ghost and The Goth is a really enjoyable book. I read somewhere that this type of book has been done before, but how many books have you read that are based on entirely and completely new ideas? Ideas for books get reused all the time, and if an author can make the same idea enjoyable in a new way, then whats wrong with that? Nothing in my opinion. It may be a story thats already been told, but I personally haven't read something along these lines before and maybe that's why I enjoyed it more than the other 2 peoples reviews I read.
In the beginning of the book I kind of got annoyed with one of the main characters, Alona. The way she talks and thinks is so stuck up. It kind of reminded me of the girls from Clueless. As the story progresses though, the character changes and grows. She's still stuck up, but that type of dialogue from her isn't quite as, omg totally right? I enjoyed the back and forth chapters from Alona, the ghost, and Will, the goth. There's a lot I can't go into because I try to stay as spoiler free as possible and if I say too much it might give away some of what is to occur so i'll stick with the basics. The characters are well written, but how realistic they are i'm not to sure about. I obviously don't know anyone who can see and communicate with the dead, but if I did I imagine they would be similar to the way Will is. Alona is stuck up and plain bitchy, which I know definitely exists in the real world but I think Kade adds some more of that into Alona's character so we can see just how shallow and mean she is. Does that make sense??
With ghosts all around, a hot goth guy who can speak to the dead, romance and action.. what more could you ask for?
Anyways, I enjoyed the book and will be looking forward to the next part of this series. From what I've heard there will be three books in Alona and Will's story and I can't wait to get my hands on the next chapter. One thing that was completely awesome, knowing ahead of time that there will be a next book, was that the ending did not leave a cliffhanger at all. The author managed to hook me without it, so props to you Stacey and thanks now I can wait in peace. :P
I will be sending Stacey some questions for an interview in a couple of days so any questions you want me to ask her, feel free to leave them here and I will try to get them all in!!
