(Thanks to Larissa for my new button! I'll leave it in the sidebar and if you want to start Favorite Friday you can grab my button and just be sure to credit me!)

Favorite Friday is a meme that focuses on the favorite things of our fellow bloggers or authors!

This week Emily aka Willowraven from Red House Books is here to share some of her favorite things.

One of my favorite things is the beach.

I grew up on an island, literally surrounded by water at all times. As a kid, every summer, I took swimming lessons at the local pool during the week and almost every weekend I was at the beach! The sun was always so warm and the water was always freezing. Didn't matter what time of year it was. We all blamed it on 'that Gulf Stream thing' even though none of us kids really knew what that meant.

Going to the beach was a simple affair in my family. Some blankets, maybe a chair or two, shovels and buckets (of course) and that was about it. Finding the perfect spot was always tricky. We wanted to be close enough to the water to hear the waves and smell the salt but not too far away from the boardwalk. As soon as we settled down, I would start digging. Sandcastles really weren't my thing - I left that to my dad or cousin. What I wanted was the moat. Close enough to the water, if you dug down to just the right depth, your hole would fill up with sea water. I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

There are tons of beaches on Long Island but there was really only one we ever went to. Jones Beach. Lots of sand, mild waves, mile of boardwalk, lots of food and it even had a mini golf! Tons of sea shells to collect (I still have a bunch) and the sunsets? Beautiful!

I miss the beach and I miss the water. I never would have though I would come to live in an (almost) land locked state and I never realized how much I took the water for granted. I still love the beach, even though I don't see it nearly enough these days. My family is still on Long Island and even though this summer is supper busy for me, I'm thinking a trip to the beach is in order - it's been too long!

I'm not a great swimmer at all but I love the ocean. It's great because you can just sort of bob there, flap your feet and roll with the waves.

Hi Sherry! Thanks for letting me babble about the beach :) It's so hot today I wish I were in the ocean right now.

Happy Reading!
