The Emerald Talisman Blog Tour featuring Brenda Pandos!

I am thrilled to be participating in the blog tour to promote Brenda Pandos' debut release, The Emerald Talisman.

First, if you haven't heard of it, check out the summary below.

Summary from Goodreads:

"To be normal, sixteen-year-old Julia Parker would shed her empathic gift in a second. Life has been difficult since her mother's mysterious disappearance ten years earlier - an event she witnessed, but can't remember. Julia's situation becomes more complicated after a near death experience from a blood thirsty stalker. As high school students go missing it is clear there is a connection to her own experience--past and present. Someone has to stop the madness and a chance encounter with a creepy psychic foretells that only Julia is the key to stopping the madness, but it may require the life of the one she loves."

Now, we have a special guest post from the author herself. I asked her "What are your top five vampire books of all time and why?".

  Please welcome Brenda!

*****

1. Interview with a Vampire. This book and movie opened my world to the love of the anguishing hot vampire, fighting his thirst and trying to do the right thing. After watching Brad Pitt on the screen, all I could think about for days was being his girl and running away with him. Though the blood part grossed me out, the rest of the super powers and just general ‘badness’ appealed to me.

2. Twilight. This book affected me, but not in the way you would think. What I really got intrigued about was Stephenie herself. She made writing look easy (which I found out later, it’s not) but I identified with her in a weird way. I should have done another genre other than vampires, but I couldn’t stop the scenes from playing out in my head, so I went with it, never intending to be published. My story, at the time, was really was just for me. After I finished my manuscript, I read the rest of Twilight and the other books (and just about died when I found out Reneseme was a ½ breed) and really enjoyed them. So I like to tell people that my story is different than Twilight, but it’ll appeal to you if you liked Twilight.

Okay, so now I have to deviate because I’ve read a few other vampire books since writing mine, but I don’t want to put them in the “top 5” category. Either they were scary or confusing, so I’m going to finish with shows/movies.

3. Lost Boys. Though I don’t remember a ton of details, I just remember the old guy at the end saying “The one thing about living in Santa Carla I couldn’t stomach, all the d*** vampires”. Too funny! Again, hot vampires and cool super powers!

4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel. More hot vampires, lots of angst, powerful girl hero who has cool super powers! I also adore Spike.

5. Blade. This movie was cool. I love deviations from the norm and how he could walk in the daylight. It also had some killer music.

So, these were my influences and the vampire cultures I like to indulge in.

Thanks Sherry for the opportunity to be a guest on your blog!

I remember watching Buffy the Vampire when I was really small, I loved it but at the same time was terrified. Now that I'm older I realize that its not scary at all.
